Staff Ratio case studies

Health Education England's (HEE) Staff Ratio Recommendations have been of value to knowledge and library managers in seeking organisational support for service improvement and informing staffing structure.

These case studies offer examples from a number of managers who have kindly shared their experiences with the network.

Dan Livesey, Library and Knowledge Service Manager at the Christie NHS Foundation Trust was able to use Health Education England’s (HEE) Knowledge and Library Staff Ratio recommendations to raise awareness of the value of embedded roles within his Trust.

This led to two-year funding for a clinical librarian post within the Radiotherapy Education team at the Christie.

Stephen Ayre, Knowledge and Library Service Lead at George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust was able to make use of the Staff Ratio recommendations during negotiations with South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust​ over developing a joint knowledge and library service.

Stephen observed that the policy was crucial in the development of a robust and equitable staffing structure for the newly merged Knowledge and Library Service at George Eliot Hospital and South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trusts.

Siobhan Linsey, Knowledge and Library Services Lead at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust used the staff ratio recommendations, alongside various other HEE policy recommendations and guidance, to design a business case for improved staffing levels in the knowledge and library service.
